There are several ways through which you can make your outdoor swimming pools look better than how it is. One of the most obvious ways is of course by creating landscape around the swimming pool. This can be done by simple concrete projects. For example, you can create raised beds supported by walls.

You can even decorate these walls with the help of decorative concrete. Sometimes, the decorative concrete can also be used to add charm to the other areas of the swimming pools where concrete has been used. These methods are not very complicated and you can do it yourself as well.

However, if you don’t want to get into so much of hassles, there is another very simple way through which you can make your outdoor swimming pools more attractive. This is by cleaning the pool and adding some color to the concrete. This can be achieved by the epoxy concrete floor paint or the acid stain.

Now, what method you should choose depends solely on your choice. Again, if you are looking to resurface the concrete pool deck completely, you have to color it and stamp it. Of course, you can repave it with the concrete paving slabs that can be decorative as well.

Now, if you are thinking that the process of stamping the concrete is very long and complicated one, you will be mistaken. However, in case you are going to resurface, that may take a long time and involve a lot of effort. This is why it is important to consider this option in such circumstances.

After all, rebuilding the swimming pools is a time consuming task indeed. Naturally, people think twice before going for this. However, if you have decided to go for it, you can easily consider the option of upgrading it with decorative concrete. For, using this will not take a lot of time anyway. However, before doing that, you need to make sure that you have discussed this issue with the contractor. After all, it needs to be a specialist to understand what exactly your swimming pool demands to be more attractive.

This is a topic very close to my heart, as I nearly lost my youngest son to drowning in a bath tub.

It happened like this. My daughter at the time was 5 and had a friend over with her older sister at our house. The girls were getting ready for a school disco, my daughter and her friend had a bath and the older sister had just taken her turn.

Unfortunately she had not pulled the plug out of the bath, at the time I was in the kitchen talking to my husband and noticed my daughter in her bedroom with the other girls. A quick head count and call it a mothers instinct but I headed straight to the bathroom and my son was rolling around. As you can imagine my heart stopped but he was ok.

After I had calmed down I had to explain the importance to the girls to always pull the plug out of the bath. You would have thought a 1 year would not remember, but they do somehow. It took years for my son to put his head under the shower to wash his hair. Countless years of swimming lessons before he gained confidence in water. He is now 8 and I am blessed not to have lost him.

Everyone regardless has a responsibility to ensure all children are safe around water. In New Zealand if you have a Swimming Pool you are governed by the Fencing of Swimming Pools Act 1987 and this Act requires:

Where there is a private swimming pool or spa pool it must be fenced unless:

* It’s a maximum depth is 400mm or less; or

* Its walls are 1.2 metres or more above the ground or the pool’s surround. (There must be no permanent means of access or temporary steps must be removed after use) or;

* It is indoors.

* You must notify your Council if you have a pool or spa or intend to build or install one.

* A building consent is required prior to construction/installing a pool or alteration of fencing around a pool.

* All pools must be fenced to the standard set out in the Act. If a pool is not fenced to such standard in the Act it must be kept empty.

* Anyone renting or leasing a house with a pool must ensure the pool is kept empty if it does not comply with the Act.

* The fence must surround the pool and any area around the pool including any area used in association with the pool.

* The standard of fencing required is available in the Swimming Pools Act 1987.

Again if you are unsure check with your local council.

There is no better safe guard then to constantly supervise children around water, and ensure every child can swim. Lets do it for the kids.

When you’re considering different pool fencing designs, it helps to ask yourself why you want to enclose the pool to begin with. Some homeowners are primarily concerned with privacy, others with decorations, while still others just need a fence that does its basic function – to keep people and animals out.

The materials you choose will have the biggest impact on the impression the fence makes. Metal, wood and vinyl are the most frequently used. Wood fences are usually fashioned from cedar or pine. Pine is often pressure-treated, but cedar fences have greater longevity due to their denser grain, which protects against insects and the vagaries of weather.

For less maintenance and even longer life, metal and vinyl are superior. Even if privacy is not a concern, you’ll need to keep the rods close together, no more then four inches, to prevent children and pets from slipping through. Any horizontal framing components should be placed on the inside to discourage children from scaling the fence. To further keep kids from climbing over or crawling under, fences of all types should be at least 48 inches high, and the bottoms of any planks should be no more than four inches from the ground.

If your local regulations allow it, a chain link fence is sufficient for purely functional fencing, but it may not be ideal from a safety perspective – hence the regulatory concerns. Chain links are convenient footholds for children, but their convenience decreases with size. Links that are a maximum of 1.25 inches will comply with most safety codes, and make it hard for children to insert their feet.

A stockade fence is great for privacy fencing, since it has no gaps between slats. Before committing to installing this design, you should think twice about whether or not you’ll enjoy it long-term, since having no view from the inside out or vice versa can create an isolating ambiance.

The first choice for decorative fencing is usually an ornamental wrought iron fence, which is also the most expensive kind of pool fencing you can invest it. You can achieve the same look for less money with a ornamental fence made from hot-dipped galvanized steel, which still offers more durability than aluminum fencing.
